Craco - is a unique landmark. So the best is to outline its atmosphere and beauty of the city. We want to make people feel special personal emotions from being there. Our approach to the project is based on these main issues:
-Emphasize the landmark;
-Preserve buildings and ruins;
-Save the atmosphere of the decaying beautiful place;
-Design new volumes that do not conflict with the main volume of the city;
-Use simple materials without any decorations;

We create clear forms with laconic function. They do not take the main focus but enhance the effect people receive from the city. The main functional zones are the service center, path of Craco history, shelter units, comfort units, exhibition space.
Service center
The arched gallery stands at the beginning of the way and invites travelers to the city. It enframes the view of the nature of Matera from the public space that connects the wellness center, restaurant, and info point. Clay was a part of the destruction, but we want it to become the foundation of a new part of the city. So, the main materials of the new service center are clay-colored concrete, steel, and glass.
The new building of the info point/library is a glass box inserted into the perimeter of the ruins. One old wall is used as a part of the interior, indicating the presence of the city.
Buildings of the wellness center and restaurants are just two simple forms from clay-colored concrete and glass combined into one terraced composition.
Path of Craco history
The Path of Craco history is the main road through the ancient city. Arches with written significant events guide travelers through the streets under the auspices of arches with stories to the top, lead travelers through the streets of the city to its peak - the ancient tower, ending with the main panoramic viewpoint, set around.
Comfort units
Spacious units that satisfy not only basic needs, but provide a greater level of comfort. It has a long-form so that visitors can see magnificent views from anywhere within. Located on the rocky right side of the city, units are designed to be hidden from the eyes of travelers.
Shelter units
Branching routes lead to personal shelters, among the ruins for which we proposed a simple form of tens. The main materials are reflective surfaces, to make them more invisible. The material of the shelter roof varies from solid to transparent, depending on the existing surrounding walls.
