These are a series of illustrations based on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. I made the original colour images in the early 1990’s in the pre digital era. I was studying printmaking and illustration at the time so I combined linocuts with a model made from waste materials. The models were placed in front of a projected photograph along with the propped up linocut prints. The set up was then photographed. The overall effect was reminiscent of the Ray Harryhausen movies and an old series of Paddington bear which combined a stop motion teddy bear with drawn illustrations. I was never fully happy with the final illustrations so I have given them a refresh here to give them a 1950’s sci-fi movie feel.
