Coote’s Paradise the largest and last remaining fresh water marsh of significance on western Lake Ontario. It is an essential location for breeding and migration and has an intact, escarpment to lake corridor.
Over 1500 species visit here or call it home. Fed by both the Grindstone Creek and Spencer’s Creek watersheds, it formed behind the Burlington Heights isthmus left by receding Lake Iroquois. Today, it struggles under pollution, invasive species and the incessant pressure of development.
