Flora Fountain Inspired Textile Prints

Flora Fountain, Fort, Mumbai ; Photographs taken by me during site visit.
Nature of Project: Classroom Project
Semester 5, World Textiles II

Project Brief:
To study the architectural design of a local monument and re-contextualise it through textiles.

Project Goals:
The neoclassical ornamentation of Flora Fountain and its history with the city of Mumbai inspired me. I also chose to add a touch of the Art Deco style to my prints in order to capture the architectural history that surrounds the fountain. I designed a three-piece collection of prints, further rendered as cushion covers, to suggest the idea of giving tribute to the history of the city of Mumbai, one that is close to the hearts of many, within one's home.

The project began with a site visit, followed by motif explorations and final print development with mock-ups.

Timeline:
2 weeks; October 2019
Motif Development Stage
Out the of the above motif explorations, three motifs were further refined to develop prints.
