GARMENT CONSTRUCTION// 'SHAPE OF YOU...'

"Shape of you..."
"Shape of you..." is a project which includes the entire journey of apparel making, from creating boards to stitching the garment. It is a level up to the sewing course with pattern making and more understanding of details and proportions of human body involved in it. It started off with choosing inspiration and creating different boards. After developing sketches for the main garment, trial fit and surface were made.
Concept note
Inspiration board
Mood board
Color board
Look board
Texture board
Taking look inspiration from designers like Iris Van Herpen, Alexander Mcqueen, Marc Jacobs, Guo Pei, Titinia Inglis and Barbara I Gongini, and considering the concept, I wanted to make something very sculpted. Hence, texture palette was decided accordingly.
Material and texture explorations
Explorations were done taking inspiration from texture board and using different materials like wire, velvet, and net. Also different techniques like gathering and tie & dye were used.

Final sketches
After selecting the final sketches, the surface was prepared by hand stitching the velvet cords on the cut pattern. The fabric used was raw silk and cords were made out of velvet and wire.
