Forgotten By The Day Part 1

“A dream is a microscope through which we look at the hidden occurrences in our soul.” - Erich Fromm

“Forgotten by the Day” is a series formed by questioning the mental states between dreams, and the waking life. It is my visual journey through the unconscious, by observing dreams of mine and the others, manipulating space and time, altering the human body and its surroundings in the waking life.

Inside the human body, everything is constantly moving even though the eyes just see the physical body standing in front of a mirror. When one sleeps, it is common to think that their encounters in the dreamworlds are not real. But just like the physical body, the mind has its unseen parts. Dream language may seem meaningless when one tries to place them on a linear timeline since the perception of time and space are very different from the waking life. On the other hand, it is possible to observe them with symbols according to psychoanalysis and many ancient cultures.

In dreams, most of the characters are appeared as parts of the dreamer’s self, for the reason that they are created by the dreamer’s mind. They are part of the mind but the knowledge comes from the unknown part, they can tell things which the dreamer does not know about with the conscious mind. By exploring the shadow part and making the darkness conscious, one can know oneself better.
