This project is a renovation of an existing 3-storey + ground floor building that is part of the listed King's Theatre building, located in Portsmouth, Southsea, United Kingdom. The challenge was to design a new coffee house for the 21st century, which will go beyond the commercialisation and standardisation of coffee house chains. From the very beginning, I wanted to design a stage, as a connection between my coffee house and King's Theatre nearby, that is visible from all floors. On entrance visitors’ eyes can’t help but observe different aspects of the interior in order. First, the geometric bar that’s is formed and painted in a way that invites the eye to observe from different angles. Then the red steel statement staircase, that expends to the first and second-floor connecting the space. And finally the triple-height space with the view of the stage and on-going performance.
