WARI 2019
Wari is an annual pilgrimage to the town of Pandharpur which is the seat of Hindu God Vithoba in the Indian state of Maharashtra, led by millions of varkaris ( the people who perform Wari ) on a 21 day journey on foot. The varkaris carry out palakhis ( processions ) carrying the footprints of saint dnyaneshwar and Tukaram starting out from their respective shrines at Alandi and dehu (Maharashtra) This tradition is more than 800 yrs old. After hearing about it so much, I finally had the opportunity to document it.
