The Art of Eating

The art of eating
Storyline focuses on the complexity of making a food combination that looks appetizing and artistic at the same. It is said that gastronomy is like a laboratory where you can create surprises, colors and memories. With great imagination, great ideas can come up in the kitchen, and thanks to the experience that is acquired you can improve on that profession, full of sacrifice and dedication. I am trying to make people think about a different concept of food and that it can be an inspiration when making diverse forms of art. Because of its importance in everyday life, food has always been an unlimited source of inspiration for art in all its aspects. For example, In 1967 the painter Daniel Spoerri coined the expression "Eat Art" to encourage critical observation about the fundamental principles of food and nowadays there are many artistic forms that interpret the field of food.

The first picture shows different spices that seems like they are forming a Mondrian’s painting from a bird-eye angle. I wanted to imitate the colors by using spices on a white paper, so that it seems like a painting. These materials can be used in everyday life and we wanted to show a different way to use them.

The second picture is made from an eye-level angle. The main object is a pink orange. The fruit and the background have their colours edited so that they seem like a pop art work. By applying eye-level angle, the audience sees the objects, how they would see it in a natural point of view. In this picture we want to show the relationship between food and art.

My third picture shows a place setting that looks like a Miró painting from a bird-eye angle. I wanted the audience to understand that a simple breakfast can look until like an abstract painting.

The fourth picture shows a mix of condiments that look like a Pollock’s painting. In this picture I wanted to imitate as much as possible the aesthetic of the artist by using a black background so that colours can stand out.

The last picture shows a basket with some cheese slices around. The photo has been made natural light. Moreover, this picture is not as exact as the others since we wanted to capture the essence of Dalí’s painting.
