The Geisha: Conceptual Photo Shoot

Mood Board: "The Geisha" is the fifth stage of our muse. I drew inspiration from Shakespeare's "As You Like It," in which he describes the life of man in ages. "The Geisha" is a take on the "Justice" age. The "Justice" muse is a lavish and traveled character. They possess wealth both material and immaterial. Their only desire is to live out the remainder of their life in peace, surrounded by their hoard. "The Geisha" is a dichotomous character in my mind. She is proud, yet scared. She is greedy, yet humble. She is obsessed with beauty and repulsed by it. I decided to shoot on location at an underground gym. To me, it was the perfect contrast for a character who is obsessed with maintaining a perfect mask of luxury and beauty. For the styling, we decided to mix traditional influences with a hip take on office-meets-eveningwear.

BTS: Setting up in a dark underground gym was a challenge! It was fun to use our surroundings to our advantage. The model both interacted with the environment, but also stood out from it. (Location booking by Amanda Moore.)
