Fay, my senior collection at Ryerson University is a custom eveningwear collection comprised of dramatic showpieces. Each outfit is complemented by the addition of contemporary leather over pieces to offer coverage while creating a harmonious story for any formal occasion. The collection celebrates surface design techniques with a multitude of skilled applications including a range of rivets and metal trims, hand pleated dupioni silks contoured to the body, and heat treated petal appliqué to convey the soft nature of the inspiration. Fay, named after my grandmother, is inspired by her own handcrafted porcelain doll collection. Fay captures the supple hand feel of the porcelain in the leather pieces and recreates the delicate nature of the doll’s clothes adding drama with voluminous silhouettes.
