Conquer Bliss

Conquer Bliss is an Action Adventure game where you take on the role of a survivor in a dystopian future where giant man-eating robots have shattered the world. It is your mission to destroy these robots, and bring harmony to your home planet.

Conquer Bliss was created in Unity by a 5 person team during a 10 week course in game development and project managment at Stockholm University. I was part of the team as a programmer.

For the most part i spent time implementing the AI-system, AI-behaviours and the game loop. I think one of the biggest challenges for me was to design the architecture of the AI-system. We decided to go with a utility based approach where every AI´s actions would be based on different weights that were constantly changing depending on the current state of the world. Besides that we wanted each behaviour to be completely decoupled from the actual system meaning we could allow for varied sets of interacting behaviours making use of just a few single behaviours. I had only previous experience with finite statemachines and behaviour trees to some degree and except for a few good GDC-talks on utility-AI we did not find that many useful resources. It was a fun challenge and a good learning experience even though there sure is room for improvement in the future :)
