March 13th_OCTOPUS FACE! _New Painting

I saw this documentary about Chuck Close, an artist who is known for painting portraits in various inventive styles. One of the techniques was using his thumb to stamp the paint on the canvas.

Was interested by the simplicity and the slow, gradual building of the painting, and also working outside of using brushes. So i gave it a go but didnt know if it would really work but once it got started it kept getting better and better! It started with black and white, figuring out shadows and planning the shapes, then gradually adding mild colors, browns and yellows, then to the vibrant shades of red.
