Sometimes I like to play around with the spiral tool in Illustrator, setting the decay rate to 0.618 to make perfect golden spirals.  After symmetrically arranging a few of these, I noticed some aesthetic similarities to the face of tiger.  I continued to embellish until I ended up with a stylized saber-tooth tiger (RIP).
