This group project was created to test our abilities to conceptualize, rethink, revise, construct and produce a 5 part product family cohearant to the design language and properties of KTM.
The 5 products chosen were: a canteen, toothbrush, comb, socket tool, and an electric shaver.
To start, we came up with a multitude of designs and ideas through quick ideation. These roughed out forms would eventually evolve into tightened ideas which would allow for fabrication.
After the roughed out ideas were refined and calibrated to the design language of the KTM branding, more precise drawings along with tighter ideas were formed. These two processes in conjunction with constant revision created a clear path for the evolution of our designs.
In this next step, we worked to bring our individual ideas into one cohesive "family" of products. Once a family was decided upon, the fabrication processes could begin.
Fabrication began with the construction of CAD models, built to scale on the digital plane. These models were key to producing quality prototypes because they allowed for early detection of flaws within our designs. If a flaw was detected, the idea was rethought and then put through more digital testing until it met our standards.
Now that our CAD models were of acceptable quality, our prototyping continued with the production of our designs using cheep materials such as pink and blue insolation foam. These cost efficiant physical models are great for showing any potential flaws or areas of improvement. They also show where the designs were successful accoding to the ergonomic studies of the human body.
Final production followed in accordance to our finalized sketch models, and were built to scale along side our previous work.
Since our canteen was a hollow form for water storage, a different method was used for its creation. Through the process of vacuum forming, our vollumized space was created.
Sanding, priming, and painting lead us to our final results.
