Antarctic Iceberg (A68 A)

I was lucky enough to be at sea in the Antarctic, near Elephant Island, when the opportunity arose to sail close to an immense tabular iceberg. These icebergs calve from the major ice shelves, this one came from the Larsen Ice Shelf hence the designation A68. This was the largest of the fragments, A68 A, the size of a small country (estimated at 2000 sq miles), and floating free in the Weddell Sea. It was awe inspiring to get to less than a nautical mile from such an immense object. At the time, this was thought to be the largest iceberg in the world.
(for reference, the ice cliff is about 80 metres high)
