Metaphor Project:
Nostalgia
This project was initiated by the idea of METAPHOR,
which is a figure of speech that directly refers to one
thing by mentioning another for rhetorical effect.
While doing research on metaphor, I came across
a beautiful and touching Chinese poetry by name
of Homesickness(鄉愁), which was composed by
a Taiwanese poet, Yu Guangzhong.
Inspired by this poem, I went to research on the
subject of homesickness and recalled my own
experience of being homesick.
From my point of view, homesickness is so common
that everyone has had this emotion at some points.
Hence, it is not a shame for anybody to express
their homesick feelings.
After done with research on modern Chinese poetry,
I wrote a poem on the subject of homesickness.
In the poem, I compare homesickness to stars,
kite thread, swamp, tree roots and tides,
which represent five different stages of being homesick.
So here, I created illustrations with the intention to
visualise each sentence of my poem and compiled
them all together as a typographic illustration book.
