I had an idea to create a snake-noose as I was brainstorming concepts of snake sketches that I could create that still possessed a morbid undertone. At the time of the work, I was feeling really stressed out and a little down and wanted to channel that into my work so that I could put out my feelings in a productive way. Drawing has always been an outlet for me and can sometimes encapsulate how I feel more accurately than what I can verbally communicate sometimes. I was very happy with the outcome and it remains as one of my current favourite works. I not only liked the overall end result, but I was able to turn being in a difficult place into a work that I could be happy with.
Below shows when I first jotted down the idea along with some snake sketches when I was deciding whether or not to do a rattlesnake. I ended up liking the more classic traditional snake and ultimately went with that:
