I’m delighted to announce the publication of The Bubble Who Would Not POP!, a book which I illustrated in collaboration with Little Lamb Books and Shelly Roark. The book will be released on September 12th and this is the first time my work has appeared in a children’s picture book so I couldn’t be more excited! To celebrate its release, I thought I could share some of the artwork and shed some light on my illustrating process.
The book was released in September 2017. If you want to grap your own copy of The Bubble Who Would Not POP! you can order it here!

Character Design
The starting point for illustrating any story is getting to know your characters. Having read the manuscript for The Bubble Who Would Not POP! my first task was to create a character design for the story’s little hero!
From sketch to final
Once the character designs were approved by the author and all the lovely people at Little Lamb Books, my next job was to fit the story to each spread and create a rough sketch to go with the text.
Based on these sketches I would create a more detailed sketch for each page, blocking in very rough colours, working closely with the design team until everybody was happy with the look and feel of the pages. Once everybody approved, I took the sketches to final artwork. Here you can see what this process looked like:
Well, I hope you enjoyed this insight into the production of my debut as a picture book illustrator! And hopefully (should you happen to pick up a copy!) you will have as much fun reading it as I had drawing it!
