Design Innovation: Gender Stereotypes

Build your own Career
Gender Stereotyping

Brief:
We live in a society that promotes equality and equal opportunity. Our academic system offers support and encouragement in which students are able to pursue their chosen career path regardless of gender or race. Why then are certain career paths gendered? We were are asked to use the format of an A2 poster, to communicate a powerful message about gender imbalance and subject/career choice to school children, aged 14–16, both male and female.

Concept:
My concept was based around what children used to play with in the past, airfix kids and paper dolls. Inspired by the concept of being able to build your own person and or outcome I decided to create career kits. Concept being that you can dress the man/ woman in any clothes you want, any career you want with no limit. By taking out colour from the kit it allowed for further personalisation.
Initial posters/ concepts were created using actual kits I printed and made by hand. The images did not prove to be high quality enough for an A2 poster.
I chose the yellow background as it is both gender neutral and stands out from other posters.
Thankyou for reading! Give it a like if you like what you see :)
