BAS Conference Collateral
Graphic Design, Print Design, Branding and Identity
The Biblical Archaeology Society (BAS) has been offering conferences and foreign tours for decades, and due to the traditional academic background of much of its membership, relies upon direct mail for the majority of its communication. Nonetheless, due to rising costs of postage, paper, and printing, the challenge is to create compelling marketing pieces in a small and highly-visible package.

To accomplish this, I was tasked with creating a design program that would be eye-catching and well-designed, while leaving plenty of area for detailed descriptions and traditional paper-based registration. Since the pieces are part of a series, the overall look was planned to be familiar, but differentiated enough at the same time. Aside from images, color and typography were primarily used to accomplish this goal.

For branding the events, distinct logotypes were created in multiple formats, so that they could be used online, signage, giveaways, and other meeting-based collateral. Being that the other materials were quite image heavy, designing primarily via typography and color was a good way to balance against rich imagery.

Another necessary task was image retouching (with a before/after sample)--necessary to remove some distracting elements from an otherwise excellent image of the Dome of the Rock.

And, due to the extremely limited time constraints, I further assisted the client by soliciting print bids, selecting paper, finishes, and checking the final press approval proofs.
