A visual effects piece created using Photoshop and After Effects as well as existing footage. A variety of techniques used include planar motion tracking, keying, rotoscoping and animation.
This shot combines 3 separate plates, two for the main characters and one for the people fleeing. The sky has been replaced and fake camera shakes are implemented throughout.
Here the actor has been filmed against a green screen which has been keyed out. The explosions were filmed against black which was removed by carefully extrapolating the colour. Using a variety of edge-finding methods, a glow was added to the actor to create the impression of a sudden flare of light.
The basic shapes were created in Photoshop and imported to After Effects. Even simple animations create a fast paced sequence when combined. The screen was then tracked to the face of the iPod and as the screen is tilted upward, a false shine appears. The tip of the finger was rotoscoped to allow it to interact with the interface effectively.
This footage for this character was filmed both against green screen and on location. In this case it was the latter so they had to be rotoscoped back in to appear solid against the smoke in the background.
