Live brief set by the IOP (Institute of Physics) to challenge the exiting norms regarding subject choice and gender for 14-16 year olds both male and female. The poster had to inspire and empower the audience to strive beyond these ‘normal’ expectations. The poster should also make the audience feel like they can study any subjects they want to and not what they thought they ought to do.

For my poster I wanted to pick something that the audience would instantly recognise and associate with stereotypes; this being the male & female pictograms. From here, I wanted to represent a shadow reflecting on a career path that would not been seen as the ‘norm.’ So for the male I designed a male nurse shadow and for the female I designed a shadow reflecting her working in construction. I done research for these areas and the stigma around these are they are both very negative towards the gender and job role.

I then placed them onto a white background to show a balance in colour & gender with the title ‘‘Don’t leave your ambitions in the shadows. Find your own way.’’ which I feel relates to both the design and the meaning of the icons and strives to break the stereotype even more.
