Sound design of Lend Me a Tenor

Dio Che Nell'alma Infondere
Duet from the production of Lend Me a Tenor
For the sound design of this play, it was quite a big project which involved composing musical cues, reproducing operatic duets, recording and editing sound effects, rigging speakers in the theatre and aiding in the musical direction of the operatic arias sung.

The biggest part of the design was using virtual instruments from Protools to recreate the 16-piece orchestral accompaniment of two duets "Dio Che Nell'alma Infondere" from Don Carlo, as well as "Gia Nelle Notte Densa" from Otello.
The duet was sung live, but one of the cues has Max, the main character, recalling the duet him and Tito, a famous opera star, had just sung. So I had the actors come in my small vocal booth to record this snippet of the duet.

Vocals were recorded using AT4040 and Protools. Accompaniment produced using Protools Xpandr2. This accompaniment was pitch shifted from the original to suit the actors' voices.

This was a very fun sound design. One of the sound cues even involved recording me throwing my entire cutlery drawer on the floor!
