Weird Russian holidays

On February the 23rd Russia celebrates its soldiers, or national guardians. Its time for women to lavish their men with something that would prove their love and admiration for them. For nearly a century, that "something" had always been socks and hankerchiefs.

Ah, March the 8th... Russians believe it to be the International Women's Day and it is one of the nation's favourite bank holiday. Now it's the man's turn to go crazy looking for something to give their ladies. The day is 'international' the same way it is 'women's, it's all about men rushing madly through flower shops in the morning and getting drunk by the night.

Both men and women get even on February the 14th, as we say - drinks for everybody!
