Native Warrior
Experimenting with a plasma cutter on scrap metal
This piece was inspired by Petroglyphs seen while travelling from Texas through New Mexico to Arizona. A few years after this trip I had the opportunity to make this image of a Native Warrior out of a piece of scrap steel. My goal was to create a visually imposing piece for the flat wall you faced when walking down the stairs in the garden apartment I lived in at the time.

Just like the Kokopelli piece, I  left the metal in its original found condition, aside from initially running over it a few times with a forklift to flatten it out.  It also retained a slight arch which gives it added depth and dimension. I hand cut this using a plasma cutter and then created the finishes with a hand grinder.

Since the original hanging, it has adorned the walls now in three homes I have lived in.
