Understanding Portraiture

Project Introduction
With the advent of digital technology and media, traditional rendering and the illustrative study of the human form has become a specialized field, dominated by those who devote their time solely to the craft. As designers and illustrators, it is easy to neglect the fine attention needed in order to create a work by hand and instead substitute digital alternatives. Work created in this manner often lacks both a sense of craft and authenticity that can be derived from a personal illustrative touch.
Illustration is a skill that can be practised and honed with the quality of work being directly proportional to the time and energy put into it. Luckily for us, a number of prominent illustrators have developed techniques and tutorials that will guide and aid your illustration progress. By applying these techniques, you will be able to gain a functional understanding of how to create your own crafted images that will add substance and refinement to your work.

This process helped me understand the basic anatomy and structureof the different elements of a portrait, making it easier to create and draw characters for future character sketches.
