Sedulity on a Vision ~ M.F.A. Thesis Collection

The practices of haute couture have been focused on tradition throughout time, honoring the intricate, luxurious process, and delicate handling of fabrics and embellishments. The research and concept development for this study brings attention to reasons for which these traditional practices are continuously followed, as well as questions the possibilities and benefits of changes in the process that allow opportunity for innovation or production improvements. Research dives into the mind of the creator, revealing their desire to create and work with their hands, as well as answers why society appreciates and seeks out handmade goods. The studio practice for this collection is focused on creating as a handcraft with the ultimate goal of producing a modernized collection, while staying true to the traditional hand practices of the couture industry.

Textile development focuses on modernizing lace by creating a silicone lace fabric, hand-created with a silicone/latex glue. Eveningwear silhouettes are updated by creating a collection of two-piece separates with fresh hemlines and cuts.
