Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes are essential for any designer; whether they are designing the must-have consumer product or the latest high-tech component. Well-designed products provide both function and satisfaction. Designers and Engineers need to appreciate each other’s work, and be able to communicate, in order to be able to work well together.

 

This database aims to engage students of both Engineering and Design in learning about materials, through a product-centered, visually inspiring, interactive database that provides information on how and from what products are made.

 

Students inspired by innovative products are lead to high quality data and teaching resources about materials and processes. Two views are presented. The Designer's view includes the aesthetic attributes of materials and presents data in a simple, visual style. The Engineer's view includes Mechanical, Thermal and Eco Properties etc. of materials and allows for the systematic selection of materials for a particular application.

 

The database can be opened by CES EduPack 2016, a world-leading software supporting materials education at more than 1000 universities and colleges world-wide.
