Greetings! I’m Charlotte Tang from Sungai Petani, Kedah. I’m a student of Multimedia University (MMU), majoring in Media Innovation.

I was born and raised in a family that has an appreciation for art. At a young age I was exposed to paintings, embroidery and different forms of art. Hence I developed a natural love for art and started doodling at 6. What influenced me in my youth followed me throughout my growth. Even in this modern age, I still adore classic art movements like Bauhaus, Pop art and Constructivism. I also often draw inspiration from Chinese, Japanese, British and Mexican styles for my work.

In university, I was educated about advertising, from digital to print and from copywriting to brand identity. I was fascinated how words and visuals can influence the psychology of consumers. Since then, I knew my career was to be a designer in advertising and this is what I’ll do.
 Corporate identity + corporate branding
Eastern & Oriental Hotel logo design

For this task, I have chosen the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang to design a corporate identity for. The Eastern & Oriental Hotel itself is a beautiful colonial architecture. I particularly like the row of windows because of the geometric patterns they seem to form when seen afar. Hence I used the windows as my inspiration for the logo design. I chose brown tones for the logo because I wanted to bring out the colonial feel of the hotel.

Eastern & Oriental Hotel stationery design

These are the stationery design done for Eastern & Oriental Hotel. I continued on the style as well as the colour scheme of the logo in the design of the stationery items.

Eastern & Oriental Hotel promotional items

The paper bag and T-shirt are promotional items for a faux art exhibition I came up for the E&O Hotel. The design continues the style of the logo and stationery design with usage of silhouette shapes.
Eastern & Oriental Hotel extended applications

The extended applications are the corporate livery and pylon signage. The concept for both the bus and the pylon is to invite people to “join the party” back in luxurious 1885 at E&O Hotel.
Corporate identity + corporate branding
Moon munchers logo design

For this task, I’ve chosen Tau Sar Peah (Tambun biscuits) as my local delicacy to create a brand identity for. I came up with the name “Moon Munchers” because a peculiar idea I had. I find that a Tau Sar Peah looks like a little golden moon. Whenever someone pops a whole Tau Sar Peah into his mouth, it looks like the person is eating a moon, hence “Moon Munchers”. The logo is done in a Chinese paper cut style. I chose the colours red and yellow because they are both auspicious colours for the Chinese. They symbolize wealth, luck and prosperity.

Moon munchers packaging & paper bag design

The packaging for Moon Muncher’s Tau Sar Peah is a simple rectangle box where people can tear off either ends of the sides and pull out the plastic tray of Tau Sar Peahs. The illustration on the top of the packaging is the Pinang Peranakan Mansion in Penang. At the bottom of the page would be the paper bag design. The idea for the bag is to show that it is a carrier of a precious gift, like how a ship carries a treasure onboard. Having in mind, my target audience are travellers to Penang, the aforementioned “precious gift” would be the Tau Sar Peahs bought as souveniers for families and friends.

 Moon Munchers Flash website

This is the flash website I designed for Moon Munchers. There are 4 pages at the website: Home, About us, Products and Contact. The first page visitors see are 4 sections of the Moon Muncher rabbits making biscuits. Each section of the rabbits leads them to a page. Whenever visitors mouse over the orange area, the rabbits will animate and the title of the page will appear. To continue with the paper cut theme, all elements in this website are illustrated as Chinese paper cuts, down to the social network buttons as well.
Packaging design
 Coca-cola packaging design

Here is my Chinese New Year packaging design for Coca-cola. The illustration of the 4 ladies on the top of the box came from the phrase “coke bottle body”, a compliment usually said to women with a curvy hourglass figure. They are gesturing a common hand gesture Chinese do when they say “Gong xi fa cai”. The sides of the box has the paper cut out style characters “Spring” (bottom left) and “Luck” (bottom right). The paper cut style continues on to the front of the box where it is applied to the Coca-cola logo.

Digital
Flash game animation: Miyaburu & Kogitsune

This is a very simple Flash game about the adventures of Miyaburu & Kogitsune who is a ninja and a fox ninja. Players have to guide them as they go through a ninja mission. At every stage, they simply have to either click on the button or the characters themselves to enable them to carry out a task. For example, players have to press the “move” button to move the characters across the lily pond. There is also the roof stage, where players have to press on either Miyaburu or Kogitsune to let them throw their weapon.
Flash game animation: Tomato the clowns

For this game, we were required to create our own version of a space shooting game. I decided to change the traditional “shooting controlled by keyboards” navigation to a mouse click-based shooting. Players have to throw tomatoes (by clicking) at the Good clowns that are green (+10 points) and yellow ( multiply by 2 points). If players got the Bad clowns, which are purple (-10 points) and brown (divide by 2 points), their points will be stolen away. After 30 seconds, the game ends and brings the player to the score page. If they scored more than 500, they will get a gold coin. If they scored less, players will be encouraged to give the game another try.

Copywriting
Writing copy for blank ads

For this task, I had chosen Panasonic’s Viera HD television‘s print ad and Morphy Richards’ epilators print ad to write a copy for. The copies were visually stunning so it was easy for me to come up with copies for them.

 3D modeling
 Model works

Here are some of my 3D works. I use Autodesk Maya for all of the modeling.
My other creative work
The Sexy Mystery box

For this task, we were required to come up with a name and design a box that entices people to open it
. Can you resist the Sexy Mystery?
 Poster design
These are some of my poster work. They are all done in combination of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Tangerine skies (Image and type synergy assignment)
MUSE The Resistance (Album launch poster assignment
Candidate poster (Work done for friend)
Faux Roxy ad: Keep the sand in your pocket (Personal project)
Faux Billabong ad: Ocean force (Personal project)
 Artwork by hand

Other than digital work, I also do artwork by hand. "Night watch" is an A0 size pencil drawing done in my Foundation year. The painted shoes and T-shirts were done in 2008 as a hobby of mine in the holidays after my PMR exam. "The Inky Koi" is a drawing of a koi fish in Japanese art style. It’s fully drawn using Stabilo point 88 pens. The drawing stemmed from my interest in a tattoo I saw in tattoo reality show, Miami Ink.

 Still life

Photography is my 2nd love and here are some of my photos. I like still life photography because I see still life as unspoken beauties that are simple to shoot, especially with random subjects that leave interpretations free to viewers.
