Illustrated Textiles

Desert Love

I've started a personal project where I create an illustration of a scene or an object and from there I create a repeating pattern. I'm still super new to the whole pattern business but for now, I'm having a lot of fun!

This first image is the basic scene that I repeat for the textile. I love the desert and wanted to play with sandstone rock formations, saguaro cactus and of course I had to add in a little animal skull.

Below is a closer look at the desert scene so you can see the details. So far I'm keeping the illustration flat since I'm not quite sure of the detail level I can achieve once the textile is printed.

I created another repeating illustration I call Desert Spots. Little vignettes or spot illustrations of desert images repeat throughout, it makes a great companion fabric to the Desert Love textile.

One Sheep, Two Sheep, Blue Sheep

Well, that's what I've been calling this textile illustration. I branched out a bit, so daring and wild right? and added in a bit more detail and shading on this piece. I worried that it would all be lost once printed but actually, it isn't bad! If I knew out to sew I think I'd fashion a set of pillowcases out of these little guys.
