Benjamin Cook's profile

The Tell Tale Heart

Using a base image of a heart, I used some artistic licence to add the other three words of the title in the veins. I drew this directly onto an interactive computer screen, and then experimented with additional effects.
Throughout the spreads, I used just three colours - black, white, pale blue - as the story has a dark, cold feel to it. I also used repeated imagery in certain places, to show both the narrator's state of mind, and to help the reader make strong visual conections between the spreads. The shattered glass imagery also recurs throughout the story, as a metaphor for the narrator's gradually deteriorating mindset.
The cover represents the floorboards under which the old man was hidden. To get to the book itself, you must lift up the floorboards and pull it out...I hope that's not too vivid!
