The relationship between sisters can be complex and difficult for many reasons. Competition for parental attention, differences in personalities, and different ways of expressing emotions, to name a few. Despite this, many sisters maintain a strong and loving bond, remaining steadfast friends. Things get slightly more complicated when your sister is an imaginary friend.

My intention was to touch on sisters' dynamics in a light-hearted way. We had a lot of fun producing this series, and if it made you smile, I would consider it a mission accomplished. For this project, I experimented with juxtaposing two images. Both sisters have been brought to life by the same lovely person.

Practical experiment with taking images

Statement of Intent

I will create a set of six images using the fine art approach. Experimenting with the double exposure technique I’ll capture the same model twice in each photograph. Each image will portray the model acting as two different people, allowing me to explore the story of an imaginary friend and a companion in playground games and expand on the complex relationships between family members.

Each image will be in portrait orientation to evoke the feel of family portraits and maintain consistency within the series. I’ll experiment with different angles to break the monotony of a single point of view.

The young age of the model, the selection of an old mansion for the location, and the absence of modern accents will help set a mood of innocence, frivolousness, and timelessness that I’d like the series to exude. My intention is to explore surreal photography with the aim of evoking mystery and challenging traditional perceptions of reality. I hope the series will transport the viewer into a fantastical world.
