Design Process
To create this shot I went to Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration. I saw a lot of
culturally inspired images that really caught my eye so I wanted to create one of my
own. This is a staple meal in my household, so I gathered fresh ingredients from my
garden, and the grocery store and set everything up in my kitchen. The area in my
kitchen, specifically the table I used is only lit by windows and terrible yellow lights. So I shut off all lights then grabbed a lamp I usually use for hair client’s attached to an
extension cord for a lighting set up. At first I noticed the light was very harsh, so I
decided to tape parchment paper to the lamp to diffuse the light coming out. I tried out a few different angles before I got to this one. Ultimately I enjoyed this composition most because I felt it was more emotional in style to the other ones I took, also in this set up I played more with colors and paid attention to which ingredients were where to
complement each color present. I was happy with my composition, but my light was just
not right. I had my mom help me by holding either a black board or a flashlight with
parchment paper to play with different lighting setups to achieve the final image. Finally, I took the raw file into lightroom classic and edited it to create a more dramatic effect with the lighting I was able to achieve.
