CHALLENGE
To design a flyer, rack card and conceirge card to increase group sales at the Museum
SOLUTION
Each of the pieces in this package had large amounts of copy, so the main challenge was to incorporate the detailed information that large groups require, with enticing visual elements from Museum exhibitions. Whereas every piece had to present different information, they all needed to have a consistent look. Sticking with the National Geographic branded palette, a new design emerged that is both informative and visually engaging by use of bold patterns, textures and modern typography.

CHALLENGE
To create a set of bold and trendy holiday cards to be purchased on 123print.com
SOLUTION
To appeal to a trendy crowd, I decided to steer clear of traditional holiday colors and icons and emphasize
a bold color palette, strong typography and unique patterns. The typographic emphasis and non-traditional
color palette of the first card creates a lasting impression. The nutcracker and the nut images were all created
by hand in Illustrator. The simple style creates a new perspective on a timeless Christmas icon.

CHALLENGE
To design a visually intriguing postcard to entice invitees to attend the AAM Conference and visit the National
Geographic booth
SOLUTION
The answer was quite simple. National Geographic has been long-revered for evocative images. An image from an upcoming exhibition by photojournalist Jodi Cobb was selected. Once the photograph was selected, multiple typefaces were incorporated to add increased visual interest. The overall result is a strong piece that integrates dynamic typography and stunning photography.
CHALLENGE
To create a trendy stationery set targeted towards restaurants and catering businesses.
SOLUTION
This restaurant stationery had to combine a bold, trendy concept with vast appeal. Keeping this is mind, the
focus was to transform otherwise traditional imagery and texture by use of bold color and modern typography.
The conventional plaid tablecover is given a grungy appearance. Bright hues of green, ranging from light to
dark, draw attention to the chicken icon and the simple statement, “good grub.” The end result is a modern yet
laid back folk style stationery set that includes a business card, letterhead, address label and product label.

CHALLENGE
To create a clean, modern logo for a wealth investment company for use on a business stationery package.
SOLUTION
In an effort to remain consistent with the company’s mission statement, the concept was to focus on individual
and business growth. This idea of growth is represented throughout the logo, both in the shape and direction
of the arrow. This simple mark was carried across all stationery items, while maintaining a professional, clean
look to appeal to clients of all ages and experience. A non-traditional color palette of bright orange and grey
is used to differntiate the stationery from the common blue and green used for financial businesses.
CHALLENGE
To design a title treatment and advertisements for the Peruvian Gold exhibition at the National Geographic Museum
SOLUTION
Most artifact shows tend to represent the items on a stark black background. To break from tradition and incorporate the archaeological element of excavation, a grunge style background was utilized to off-set the simplicity of the gold diadem. The ads were used on Metro car cards, metro buses, newspapers, magazines and various digital interfaces. The golden text was hand-rendered in photoshop to merge well with the artifact. The final design was quite successful, reaching a wide range of audiences and inviting guests of all ages to attend the exhibit.
CHALLENGE
To create a book cover for a publishing company to re-release the book in paperback and digital formats
SOLUTION
The message of the book was to inform readers about the restrictive nature of the public school system, and how it requires students to become proverbial “prisoners” of the school system from Kindergarten to graduation. Playing off of this concept, stock photography of a child was used and a fusion of school and prison was formed visually. By incorporating the chalkboard and child with the prison line-up, a final result emerged to enlighten the audience of the harsh reality students face in the public school system.
CHALLENGE
To create a set of bold and trendy holiday cards to be purchased by businesses on 123print.com
SOLUTION
In order to appeal to a wide range of clients, the designs concentrated on fusing together holiday messages
and icons with basic items found in most offices. In this instance, a computer keyboard, business man and
woman, and a watercooler were used to convey the message “Happy Holidays.” The keyboard, gingerbread
cookies, and watercooler images were all hand-illustrated in Illustrator. The end result is a creative and unique
approach to a business holiday card.
CHALLENGE
To design a unique custom invitation to a family-style Thanksgiving celebration.
SOLUTION
This design solution is highly inspired by the warm tones and textures of the fall season. The focus of the
piece is a combination of the two main elements of Thanksgiving: the turkey and the family table. Custom
icons of the turkey and table setting were created in Illustrator and placed upon wood and cloth textures
to reinforce the idea of the dinner table. With a high concentration on typography and layout, the final result
is an attractive and non-traditional invitation.
CHALLENGE
To create a style to be used on all generic marketing materials, including a trifold brochure and rack card
SOLUTION
Prior to this assignment, the Museum inside of National Geographic’s DC Headquarters did not have a cohesive style utilized on general information products. As the Museum was opening it’s newest exhibit concurrently with the first release of the brochures and rack cards, it was decided to play off of the concept of the show. “125 Years of Exploration” celebrates National Geographic’s 125th birthday, and that was carried across these general marketing materials. The old and new explorer images were infused with illustrative and grungy elements giving the final pieces a bold, aesthetically pleasing presence.
