Swarovski Window display

About the Project
The brief given to us was to design a Christmas special window display for Swarovski by integrating the essence  any local craft. We explore the craft of Tholpaava Koothu, A traditional story telling format of Kerala  that uses carved leather puppets, light and shadow. We visited the craft centre to understand the process of making puppets and gained hands on experience with the craft. For the later stages of ideation the craft was our primary source of inspiration.

Swarovski being a jewellery brand and Tholpaava as a craft had two things in common. Intricacy and the use of light. This was the main focus moving forward.
Studying Swarovski as a brand
In  2021 the jewellery brand Swarovski went through a major rebranding project where everything from the brand colours logo was changed. The key takeaway to this project was to familiarise the audience with Swarovski's new brand identity.

Concept
The display is made for the holiday season. The central theme of this window display is the art form of shadow puppetry. Elements of shadow puppetry like light and shadow, the intricate designs etc have been incorporated in this display. Christmas themed elements like snow flakes, stars and poinsettias are carved in traditional tholpava koothu designs blending two afar concepts together.

The octagons running throughout the design is taken from the logo of Swarovski. The octagon is also to go with the jewellery in Swarovski's running collection.
The colours black and gold are chosen to make a step towards the transitioning of the brand.
