MoodBoards, Color Stories and Apparel Design Projects

For this collection, the class had to deal with white cotton shirts.  For my theme I went with researching the disintegration of coral reefs, and in an attempt to show the transition of these habitats being destroyed, I think my strong points would again lie in the way I presented and experimented with my fabric manipulations,.. rather than my illustrations.
The concept was one of the first collection ideas I had to deal with in terms of concept and mood board design, and essentially, I ended up focusing on the representational idea of white color transitioning into black.  If anything, I think this project did a good job at showing texture, and the theme of transitiion.
For this project I got inspired by the idea of serial planes and the grain of plywood.  In my construction class, I was experimenting with curves and color blocking, so about at the same time I was doing this, I was looking at color blocking patterns in tangible objects and materials.  Plywood patterns from Julia Kranz’s furniture forms inspired me to look at serial planes, and from there on I attempted at creating the same 3D forms I researched, and tried to transfer them onto the human form through the garments I came up with.  I don’t know whether it was mainly creating an illusion of 3D volume on a 2D surface, or the attempt at creating new structures on the current volumes of the human form, I still felt that I took a bigger step in terms of concept research than my previous collection presentation. This collection theme inspired me to create my beaded 3D printed garmet for the Spring 13' Millenium Park Fashion show.
Final Collection for my Junior Fashion Design class.  15 tops and 15 skirts with flats front and back= total of about 90 sketches.  This collection also was a part of a mood board and a color story.  The collection had to be based of a historical topic… (which for me was looking at the decorative elements of architecture and fine art of the Art Nouveau style)
This was my 1st designed collection attempt and it was all about the dramatic emotion that I get from ballet, not necessarily the direct costumes of the dance and the music itself... but my experience and connection with what I feel when I hear and see ballet.  In my mood board I pulled the most relevant images to what colors I see when I think of dramatic, flowing extravagant, and fluid forms in the dance.  This essentially influenced my entire color story for the rest of my three illustrated collections; (top-Sports wear, middle-Cocktail, bottom-Evening wear).
