● MURAL for the DAY OF NON-VIOLENCE AND PEACE ●
Cornellà de Llobregat, Catalonia, Spain.
Mural Workshop in Maria Aurèlia Capmany High School organized by Contorno Urbano.
I worked on the concept with the class of Arts, and later we painted together the design.
Representing the concept of "peace" was a huge challenge, because I didn't want to do it in a very standard way. I took the inspiration from the Hippie movement and the graphic design of that age, mixing it with some Street Art.
● Symbolism ●
Red poppies were a symbol of the victims of war, because they grew in the battlefields after the war. So this flower became a symbol of peace and the memory of the dead soldiers and the victims of war.
Children in a manifestation showing posters for peace. This image it's inspired by a vintage photography. It represents the youth claiming for a future of peace, equality and respect.
The pencil is drawing the sentence by Emmanuel Jal:
"Education is the only solution for peace".
The helmet is inspired by a real picture of a young soldier during the Vietnam War.
He wrote on it "War is hell".
The peace symbol growing from a seed we need to irrigate.
