Fitzroy Town Hall’s Classical Victorian design dating back to 1873 is a statement of the aspirations and burgeoning wealth Melbourne was experiencing during the gold rush era. Today the building functions as secondary offices, service centre and library servicing the Collingwood area for the City of Yarra. The Town Hall is also used for special functions and as an exhibition space.

In 2021 Conservation Studio completed critical work on the building. Identifying many ceilings which were exhibiting various signs of deterioration and required stabilisation as a matter of priority. Documenting ceiling stabilisation works to 24 ceilings throughout the building, including the Mayor’s Meeting Room, the Council Chambers, and the Main Hall. Detailed paint sample analysis guided the restoration of the appropriate paint schemes, reviving their former splendour.

In the recent 2023 Victorian Architecture Awards. Conservation Studio Australia, were awarded the “Heritage Architecture Award – Conservation” for their ceiling conservation works at Fitzroy Town Hall.

Bespoke letterpress coasters were design for end of year celebrations in 2022. Inspired directly by the ceilings craftsmanship and original colour scheme.
