Tranquility workshops - workshop and recreation complex

Tranquility Workshops in the Barycz Valley
Slow life means living at a slower pace, away from the daily rush of corporate life, consumerism and unhealthy food available in big stores.
In Poland, the function and mission of the complex is not yet often encountered. On the Internet you can find many offers of leisure places under the banner of "slow life", but it turns out that this is limited to locating facilities in not very crowded places. This is a small fraction of the idea behind slow life. Hence the idea for the Tranquility Workshops, which would not only be a place for relaxation, but also for learning and working on oneself
The thesis presents a design of a workshop and recreation complex, located in Niezgoda village in Barycz Valley Landscape Park. The complex is located on the northern side of the village, next to the Niezgoda I Pond. The area around the pond is extremely diverse in terms of flora and fauna. It is important in the context of Polish nature reserves and gives shelter to many species of animals and plants that cannot be found in other parts of Poland.
The plot is surrounded mainly by green areas and a water reservoir from the east, which gives ideal conditions to create a complex with recreational purposes, but also to educate about the treasures of Barycz Valley. The most important thing in designing the complex was modesty. With such valuable surroundings the buildings should not dominate the landscape, but be a background for the nature. The goal was achieved by dividing the functional program into many smaller buildings. These buildings, having a form reminiscent of a Brda type house, were covered with greenery. Each building, apart from fulfilling its function, is also a vantage point - on one side of the building we can admire a pond, on the other a collection of trees, in which many species of birds find shelter.
Apart from educating about the surrounding nature, the complex has a parallel function. It is a center where people learn to live according to the idea of Slow Life. This idea involves enjoying life and seeing happiness in small, everyday things. It is also deeply connected to sustainable living in harmony with nature. It assumes various skills of producing things for one's own needs, which frees us from omnipresent consumerism. This is why you can learn to make your own pottery, make your own natural cosmetics, fix old furniture or grow your own fruits and vegetables. Slow life, however, is not only about physical skills, but also a state of mind. This is why the complex hosts meetings with psychologists, film discussions and integrations. During your stay at the center you can make new friends and even create a community. Activities such as preparing meals together make you realize how important it is to have other people in your life.
A final important aspect of the resort is its prudent use of resources. Energy from photovoltaic panels, heat from a heat pump, natural materials and passivity of the building envelope are some of the many ways to reduce footprint. Also, elevating the complex to a higher level leaves most of the land on the plot untouched. The exploration of the resort has been thought out with respect to the environment already in terms of ways to access  the plot, providing a small number of parking spaces and an electric bus to bring employees and interested groups.
