Colored Pencil Portrait: Lion

Colored Pencil Portrait: Lion
For this project, I wanted to experiment with colored pencils because I hadn't used this material very much in the past and to me, I've always liked the idea of being comfortable in multiple mediums. I also took a risk and went significantly larger with this piece. It is a 18x24". My method is the one I use for all my realism work and that is to grid the page beforehand for proportion. From there, I blocked out portions of color and texture which is seen in some areas of the piece. Initially, What is filled with color was just the beginning. But, something really drew me to stop where I did and call the piece finished. I saw it as loudness, personality, and being comfortable in your individuality breaking through the grid of direction and being told which is "right" vs "wrong".
