Project Introduction

I was tasked with the project of designing a kiosk in Temasek Polytechnic located in or around the area of Triangle gardens. I had to determine the target user based on the student body and a suitable product for said user. It is commonly known that the generation which are students love to take photos which makes it easy to sell cameras and related accessories. The proposed kiosked is named Picturesque.
Isomatric overview of Picturesque. The kiosk is divided into two clear areas; the interior retail space and the exterior phototaking/relaxation area with a waterfall and a grass patch.
First interior perspective. Patrons will be greeted by a ceiling LED screen which will either display light shows or the pictures of previous patrons photos. On the right wall are two interactive wall screens where patrons can either review their photos or display them for their companions benefit.
Exterior Perspective. This is a view from the exterior relaxation area looking in towards the Horseshoe atrium of Teamasek Polytechnic's entrance.
Perspective looking at the main retail display area and cashier.
Project Brief

To Design a Kiosk in or on Triangle Gardens which sells a product of our choosing and to find a target user among the student body; using the knowledge we gained from the Group Kiosk project and our other subjects.

Site Location

The proposed site was the flat deck on the top of Garden Fiesta overlooking Triangle Gardens at Temasek Polytechic in Singapore. The plot was about 15000mm x 10000mm in size.

Concept

Picturesque is tied in with what the product is and it is an idea of the beauty of photography as an form of expression. The design generator was the film canister from old newsreel cameras. The curve of the canister and roll of film specifically.

Concept/Design Development

Using the design generator I made a series of physical models to help me visualise my design idea. Using each model, my lecturers facilitated the development of my design idea.

Model II
Model III
Model IV
Areas of potential further development

Perhaps a projection screen for the exterior wall so that the grass patch could be used as a viewing area of picture montages and the like.

A restructuring of the cloth canopy so that the rain does not come into the shop area as frequently

The possibility of interacting with the water that runs through the kiosk is tantalising and may be possibly further developed.
