Tribute to Kalpana Chawla

Tribute to Kalpana Chawla
An illustrated poster dedicated to Kalpana Chawla.

Kalpana Chawla was an Indian-born American astronaut and aerospace engineer who was the first woman of Indian origin to go to space. She first flew on Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997 as a mission specialist and primary robotic arm operator. Her second flight was on STS-107,
the final flight of Columbia, in 2003.
The artwork celebrates women as pillars of strength where we see
ancient greek and roman goddesses as an ode to the nomenclature of a lot of NASA missions,
and we see South Asian women standing shoulder to shoulder
building up and working on various space missions.
There is a woman's hand holding a lotus or a water lily,
as a symbol of many women who bloom fearlessly despite challenges.

This artwork is also available on an apparel line in collaboration with NAYMISH
