MANIC
Illustration | Album cover design | Instagram post & story

The project is about recognizing the theme and tone of a music album to create an illustration for the album cover and to promote via social media.

"Took my heart and sold it to a vision that I wrote myself"- Halsey

'Manic' by Halsey released in 2020 is about the concept of the emotional spectrum, with manic being the state of ecstasy on one end. It is usually undergone by people with bi-polar disorder. There is always a question of "what are we allowed to feel?"... even though the emotions can be validated.

The animation and audio will play as a loop when posted on Instagram. Therefore, there is a continuous beating of the heart.

Colour Palette
The colour palette is inspired from the music videos and visualizers of the album; and the pantone 2022 colour of the year 'very peri'. Purple is a blend of red and blue, therefore it a blend of two complementary emotions just like bi-polar disorder.

Process

The metallic texture is achieved by blending the colours using the liquify tool over the photograph of a human heart. The fins of a Japanese fighting fish are editing and coloured lavender. The principle of 'unity' is used to bring them together. It is later animated on Photoshop & After effects.
