Anton Schilbach's profile

R.U.R. - Rossums Universal Robots

This concept design was conceived in 2022 as part of a collaborative Project with LAMDA. Written by Karel Capek in 1920 the play examines the rise and fall of communism and what the consequences would be if humanity was overthrown by blue coloured humanoids. Directed by Madison Gerringer.
In collaboration with the director the choice was made to set the show in the 1960s. Due to the largely romantic and positive attitude towards technical advancement of that time period. The romantic and overall positive attitude towards advancements in science and technology sinisterly coincides with changes that, in Capek's play, communism evokes in humanity.
