This crochet coral piece is a step into conversation with our dying coral reefs. In partnership with artist Margaret Wertheim and her amazing, global crochet coral reef project, my contribution was put on display in the University of Illinois Siebel Design Center. My coral is made entirely from plastic, the crochet itself woven together by fishing line with color choices to resemble coral bleaching. The shapes were accomplished with a deep understanding of crochet and its fascinating capacity to step outside of Euclidian geometric forms.
