I hopped on board with the team behind the New SAT Vocabulary app, where the mission was to craft a helpful and engaging vocabulary tool not only for students preparing for the SAT worldwide but also any English-speaker looking to expand their vocabulary.
The company initially had only the vocabulary database. I was challenged to build the app’s user experience from the ground up, accommodating over 1,000 new words without overwhelming the user. Our consensus was to encourage proactive, consistent learning by giving the users ample opportunity to engage.

I started out by studying popular game-based vocabulary apps and the company’s past products to identify our product specs within technical feasibility. I devised some key solutions: a level-based system that offers learners a manageable learning curve and clear progress path, a multiple choice practice system that strikes a balance between fun and education, and engagement nudges such as study reminders, progress analytics, and a discussion forum under each new vocabulary.

I finalized the app UI using Adobe Illustrator. Upon release, New SAT Vocabulary resonated well with its target demographics, with users appreciating the structured learning path and practice quiz. It has since scored over 10,000 downloads with an average rating of 4.8/5.0 across App Store and Google Play.
