For this project, I was inspired by the texture of the scales on butterfly wings when looked at in a microscope. I designed the prints using a variety of techniques, including collaging, sketching, and even finger painting, and then scanned them to work with them further in Illustrator and Photoshop to develop my digital prints. Then I designed a small collection, which had to be for a specific designer; I chose Monique Lhuillier.
This one started with a tracing of a tree nymph butterfly that I did, layered on the computer with a collage and abstract watercolor I did.
This one is composed of multiple layers of a quick fingerpainting I did, some of which were scanned with plastic wrap over them which gives it the shiny, crinkled texture.
For this one, I took the finger painting and manipulated and repeated it into this design, which is reminiscent of a butterfly.
This one is made up of a blue morpho butterfly that I traced the major lines and shapes off of layered over another finger painting.
In this one, though I didn't use it in the final collection, my process is more clear, as you can see what elements made up the final print. The other prints had similar processes.
