In this personal piece I wanted to explore melting and liquid animations. I chose the idea of an ice ballerina because I loved the silhouette and snappy movements that ballerinas bring to mind. Since this personal project was small and I was focused on the technical aspect of it, instead of creating a moodboard I just started off with a few quick pose sketches and used lots and lots and LOTS of reference images (some shown below) and video for the ballerina and the liquid splash at the end.
I built the ballerina with shape layers piece by piece. Two pieces made up each arm, leg, and her torso. I started using Duik Bassel to rig her but decided to go with simple parents and individual keyframes instead so I felt like I had more control for the precision movements that I wanted.
