Kerava Station Area International Architectural Competition
The proposal aim is to strengthen Kerava's connection with the surrounding cities on an upper scale. Krave is a city in the north of Helsinki and a region developed by immigration. It is located in the province of Southern Finland and is part of the Uusimaa region. There are two railway stations, Kerava and Savio, which are served by commuter trains in the Helsinki metropolitan area. Helsinki Airport has located southwest of the city. The train line has an important effect on the development of the city. Now, the Kerava railway station is a transfer station. Our project aims to move this place beyond being a transfer centre.
Cycling is actively used in the region during the summer times. It is foreseen that the use of bicycles will increase seasonally with the changes to be made in the bicycle paths. A connection has been established between public transport, bicycles and the train station. With the decisions taken, it is foreseen that the connection of the train station with the city will improve.
It is foreseen that the vehicle traffic in the city will decrease gradually until 2050. The dynamic link between bike paths, pedestrian paths and public transport will ensure this step by step.
Kerava is a walkable city in terms of area size. It is a compact city. Using this characteristic in our project, we created walking routes in the city. These walking routes also include the culture, art and entertainment areas in the city. With this network, which we call Kerava Cultural Route, it will be possible to visit areas such as Art and Museum Center Sinkka, Kerava Church, Galleries and Underground Art Space.
